Central Wisconsin Children’s Theatre (CWCT) is an organization dedicated to promoting theatre, performance and educational opportunities for the benefit of young people. CWCT does this by providing a positive environment where all young people can grow and develop their self-esteem and self-confidence through the art of quality theatre.
"Theatre is the art form of the present: it exists only in the present, and then it's gone." -Simon McBurney
Central Wisconsin Children’s Theatre was formed in 1979 by the merger of two existing organizations – Wausau Children’s Theatre and The Merry Pipers. Since that time, CWCT is the only theatre organization in the area offering theatre for and by children. Over the years, hundreds of shows have been produced by thousands of children in Wausau and the surrounding communities.
CWCT produces 5 – 6 main stage shows a year in addition to 2 drama camps held in mid-summer. Rehearsals take place during the 6-8 weeks before the performance dates. We are privileged to be able to perform in venues around the area, such as The Grand, the Mosinee Creske Community Center, the UWMC Center for Civic Engagement and various school auditoriums.
In March 2015, CWCT adopted a program called The Penguin Project of CWCT. This program produces one show a year in which children with special needs hold all the main roles. There are opportunities for children with and without special needs to learn about leadership, teamwork, social interaction and communication skills while working together to produce a musical.
